In May we helped Guyana’s educators inspire TRUSTWORTHINESS in the classroom.

Set expectations for students: Give clear guidance on what’s right and wrong. Reward honesty: praise and validate students when they tell the truth. Focus on fixing the problem rather than punishing honesty.

The topic of TRUSTWORTHINESS inspired a lively discussion on truth-telling and loyalty despite the heavy rain that at times disrupted connectivity. Several teachers shared examples of how they build trust to encourage students to own up to mistakes, even when difficult.

Educators were reminded TRUSTWORTHINESS begins with them. Students stay engaged when they feel they can depend on their teachers; they are more resilient when faced with challenging subjects and likely to share what’s on their minds when they feel safe.

Primary schools participating in the workshop included Paramakatoi Primary, Mashabo, Stewartville, Malgre Tout, Providence, St. Margaret’s, and Stella Maris.

This workshop is part of a monthly series focussed on CHARACTER COUNTS! Six Pillars of Character. The workshops are facilitated by We Are GUTSY, Inc. a member of The CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition an alliance of schools, youth serving organizations, and comunitiees committed to teaching character and ethical values.
