GUTSY BAGS ITS FIRST AWARD

It’s an honor to be recognized by your peers. It was GUTSY’s turn for this privilege when the Guyana Cultural Association acknowledged its work during the Labor Day weekend celebrations in New York City.  GUTSY was one of several organizations and individuals selected by GCA for the 2023 Award.

Awardees were presented with statuettes and citations at an impressive ceremony held as the BoatHouse, Prospect Park, New York.

The public selects Awardees from nominations and evaluates them for their work based on criteria that incorporate originality, scope, impact and influence, integration, pioneering spirit, challenges, and achievements. We Are GUTSY, Inc. teaches CHARACTER to children in Guyana by coaching their educators, parents, and caregivers.

In accepting the award on behalf of the Organization, GUTSY’s founder Janice Hall reminded the audience that good character is as important as academic achievements.  “If you care about Guyana, please care about our youth, the future leaders who make up over 37% of the population, and give them the tools to do a better job than we did,” Hall said.

The founder said if Guyanese wish to bring about change in Guyana they need to begin with themselves, examine their attitudes and behavior, and mirror the behavior they desire in others.

“To break the generational curse in our dear land of Guyana we need to do more than talk” she said.
