Ours is not about definitions. It is about behaviour, responsibility, and how students show up in their classrooms, homes and communities.

GUTSY’s first workshop of 2026 focused on Citizenship, and the timing was intentional.
In early February, teachers from GUTSY’s participating schools in Guyana came together to talk about what citizenship really means and how to teach it in a way children can understand and live out every day.
This is not about definitions. It is about behavior, responsibility, and how students show up in their classrooms, their homes, and their communities.
As a member of the CHARACTER COUNTS!® Coalition, GUTSY uses that framework to guide this work. Citizenship is one of the core values we focus on, along with trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, and caring. These are the values that help children understand they are part of something bigger than themselves and that their actions matter.
