Mashabo Primary sees a significant improvement in school culture and a drop in classroom disruptions.

Mashabo became part of We Are GUTSY Inc. three years ago, and their unwavering dedication to instilling character education and essential life skills has transformed both student behavior and the overall school culture. Principal Modi Beepat and the teaching staff proudly report a remarkable drop in classroom disruptions, noting that for over a year, not a single teacher has needed the Principal’s intervention for behavioral issues, a testament to the lasting impact of this approach. Mashabo, a remote indigenous community in Region 2 along the Essequibo coast, is accessible only by a challenging three to four hour journey by land and river. Yet, we felt a strong sense of purpose to undertake this trip to witness firsthand the transformation in school culture, to personally thank the dedicated teachers and students for their achievements, and to celebrate Gabriella Adams, one of this year’s four Character Champion winners, alongside honoree Marianna Phillips.
